The U.S. flag was redesigned by a teenager?!
It’s true. In 1958, a 17-year-old high school student named Robert Heft turned in a history class project: a new version of the U.S. flag with 50 stars—one for each state, including Hawaii, which hadn’t officially joined yet. His teacher gave him a B–. But after lobbying his congressman, the design was adopted as the official U.S. flag in 1960. That “B–” project is now the longest-used flag design in U.S. history.
Flag Day: A Symbol of Service, Sacrifice, and Support
Today, June 14th, we celebrate Flag Day, a holiday that commemorates the adoption of the American flag on this day in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. With 13 stars and stripes to represent the original colonies, the flag has grown alongside our nation—evolving into a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience, and unity.

Flag Day was officially established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916.
The current 50-star version has been in use since 1960, after Hawaii became the 50th state.
Though not a federal holiday, Flag Day is celebrated nationwide, and Pennsylvania is the only state that observes it as a state holiday.
But Flag Day is about more than history—it's about the people who serve under that flag today. At Soldiers’ Angels, we are proud to support Service Members, Veterans, and their families who carry the values the flag represents: duty, honor, sacrifice.
Whether it’s sending care packages to deployed troops, distributing food to Veterans in need, or sending handmade items to VA hospitals, our work is fueled by the very ideals the flag embodies. Every gesture of support from our volunteers and donors is a living tribute to what that flag stands for.
This Flag Day, take a moment to reflect—not just on the stars and stripes, but on the men and women behind them. Because when we support them, we’re not just waving the flag—we’re living its promise.

Thanks to your incredible support, the 2025 Honor Military Working Dogs campaign has officially broken records!
You helped collect 638 dog items valued at $6,051.97 and raised $3,103 to help ship these much-needed supplies to our courageous canine heroes serving downrange.
And the best part? Donations are still coming in!
These brave pups sniff out danger, protect our troops, and ask for nothing in return. Your generosity ensures they feel the love and appreciation they deserve.

🎉 Welcoming Military Families in San Antonio
Soldiers’ Angels proudly sponsored the Kids Corner at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium event at Brooke Army Medical Center—welcoming over 100 new physician residents and their families.
While parents connected with support resources, the kids enjoyed bubbles, coloring, and plenty of fun!

🎖️ When They Couldn't Go to D.C., D.C. Came to Them
On June 8, 65 Veterans—including four from WWII—were honored in Cincinnati during Honor Flight Tri-State’s largest Flightless Honor Flight yet.
Unable to travel due to health challenges, these heroes received a heartfelt ceremony, Mail Call, and a Welcome Home Parade—bringing the Honor Flight experience to them.
Soldiers’ Angels proudly took part, delivering cards, pins, and dog tags to thank them for their service.

🏁 Racing to Serve Veterans
On June 6, Soldiers’ Angels and Kroger Racing provided groceries to 107 Veterans in Pontiac, MI—just ahead of race weekend in Brooklyn at the Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR driver Ryan Preece (Car #60) joined in, handing out food and thanking Veterans personally!
With strong partners like Kroger—and continued support from people like you—our veteran food program is already in high gear for 2025.
