Herbert—it’s LaMonica McIver. Last month, the Trump administration brought charges against me because I was doing my job as a member of Congress. Now, I’ve been officially indicted.

Let me be clear: under the law, members of Congress are explicitly authorized to conduct oversight at ICE facilities. I was there to do my job and make sure that this administration isn’t abusing people’s rights. And I was charged and now indicted. The administration’s attacks are baseless and the facts are on my side, but that’s not stopping them from going after me. So I need you on my side, today.

These charges hold no factual merit. But there’s a reason they brought them: the Trump administration thinks they can intimidate me and scare me out of doing the job I was elected to do. They’re wrong.
