John,
Today, I will be joining people in my district to protest Trump’s fascist attacks on our communities. He’s trying to silence dissent, but we will not be silenced.
It’s not too late to find a No Kings rally near you today. Click here.
I’m doing what I was sent to Congress to do: stand up to billionaire bullies and enact policies that uplift working people and vulnerable communities. Here are some ways I’m resisting Trump in Congress:
When Trump froze and delayed funding for Head Start programs, he jeopardized crucial support for 800,000 children under the age of 5—including meals, healthcare, and childcare. I led the Mamas’ Caucus and 23 of my colleagues in sending him a letter demanding he restore funding. We then saw immediate improvements to help over 50 Head Start centers access their funding. But the threat continues, and I promise to continue defending these vital programs from Trump’s attacks.
When the administration suddenly closed Job Corps centers around the country, leaving thousands of students devastated and unhoused, some Michigan Congressmembers and I sent a letter to the Trump administration demanding that they immediately reverse this reckless decision.
In Michigan alone, more than 700 students were relying on Job Corps for housing, meals, stability, and opportunities to get out of poverty. Following our pressure, a U.S. judge temporarily blocked the elimination of Job Corps, noting that presidential administrations aren’t allowed to end programs that are set up and funded by Congress. But the Trump administration has been ignoring court orders, so we need to keep the pressure on.
Last week, Trump’s shameful expansion of his first term’s Muslim and African ban went into effect―now targeting people from 19 countries. Rooted in white nationalism, this policy will separate families and put people’s lives in danger.
We must reject ideologies and policies that seek to divide us. All humans have equal rights and worth, and we will keep pushing back against the ongoing dehumanization of our communities. I’m co-leading legislation to block presidents from issuing these travel bans.
And this month, in a Financial Services Committee hearing, I made sure everyone knew how Trump is using his office to further enrich himself. Just since taking office in January, Trump’s personal fortune increased by $2.9 billion—through shameless abuses of power and corrupt cryptocurrency schemes.
These are just a few examples of how we’re resisting this administration’s attacks on our communities. I know you’re with me in this fight.
Please donate today to show the power of our movement as we stand up to a wannabe dictator and demand the multiracial democracy our Constitution promises.
