Notes from the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to the Office of Speaker Johnson's newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. | This week, House Republicans voted to overturn the D.C. City Council’s resolution allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections. Nearly 150 House Democrats voted to allow noncitizens and even foreign adversaries to cast ballots in our nation’s capital. Following House passage, Speaker Johnson said, "House Republicans are taking decisive steps to protect the integrity of American elections, through the recent passage of the SAVE Act, and I encourage the Senate to act swiftly to send this bill to the President’s desk.” | On Thursday, House Republicans passed H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025, to cut $9.4 billion in wasteful spending identified by DOGE. Following House passage, Speaker Johnson said, "Under President Trump’s leadership, your taxpayer dollars are no longer being wasted. Instead, they are being directed toward priorities that truly benefit the American people." Grace’s first place painting, Craw-Fever, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. | On Thursday, House Republicans passed H.R. 2056, legislation requiring the District of Columbia to comply with federal immigration laws and end its status as a sanctuary city. House Republicans are committed to enacting President Trump's full agenda, including securing our border and protecting our communities. Following House passage, Speaker Johnson said, "While Democrats continue to make clear they are the party that supports violent illegal aliens, MS-13 gang members, and property-destroying protests, Republicans are proud to stand with the overwhelming majority of Americans who support safe communities." | At the weekly House Republican Leadership press conference, Speaker Johnson condemned the ongoing LA riots and Governor Gavin Newsom’s failed leadership, advocated for swift passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill to provide resources to besieged federal law enforcement officers, and discussed the House’s multi-pronged approach to reducing the deficit. At the conclusion of his speech, Speaker Johnson said, "I am reminded of the scripture that says blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
