Friend,
This week, like far too many other weeks, communities across the country were rocked by senseless gun violence.

Every day, over 100 Americans are shot and killed and hundreds more are injured from gun violence. It is far past time that our elected officials take action on the many solutions before them to make our communities safer and save lives.
That’s why today, we’re calling on supporters like you, friend, to demand that members of Congress support the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2025. This life-saving legislation would expand Brady Background Checks to cover all gun sales, including those sold online and at gun shows, and help prevent tragedies like the ones we saw this week. The bill was just reintroduced, so please act NOW! [[link removed]]

Brady Background checks are the first line of defense against gun violence. Since its implementation in 1994, the Brady Background Check System has saved countless lives by preventing over 5 million firearm transfers to prohibited purchasers.
But deadly loopholes have allowed for far too many guns to be sold without background checks, leading to devastating consequences. Up to 20% of all gun sales occur without a Brady Background Check, largely due to the rise of online gun sales and gun shows — which facilitate private, unregulated sales. Businesses and individuals have exploited these loopholes for profit and they are the primary driver of gun trafficking in the United States.
That’s why we need the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2025 NOW! It will expand background checks to all firearm sales with limited exceptions, finally fulfilling the mission of our namesakes, Jim and Sarah Brady, and preventing shootings that rock our communities every day.
The overwhelming majority of Americans are in favor of expanded Brady Background Checks, including 73% of those who voted for President Trump and 83% of gun owners. Congress must listen to the people and pass the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2025.
Are you with us? Take action now and urge your representative to support this bill! [[link removed]]

Brady Condemns President Trump’s Use of Military Troops in Los Angeles
This week, many Americans watched in horror as President Trump deployed thousands [[link removed]] of National Guard troops and hundreds of Marines in response to immigration protests in Los Angeles, CA.
Participants were peacefully protesting until President Trump escalated the situation, calling for the National Guard to intervene — a rare move that has only been done a few times throughout history. Notably, this is a stark contrast to when President Trump refused to deploy the National Guard to assist the overwhelmed Capitol Police and members of Congress who begged for help during the January 6 insurrection.
We know that the presence of a firearm alone exacerbates confrontations, especially when there is already an inherently unequal power dynamic between law enforcement and civilians. This use of military force sets a dangerous precedent that not only interferes with core Constitutional rights but has a negative impact on our military and veterans.
The use of National Guard troops in Los Angeles also comes the same week as President Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C. — an extravagance that is costing taxpayers up to $45 million.
Despite the Trump administration’s propensity to make a show of lauding our veterans, the fact remains that 13 veterans die a day by firearm suicide and 80,000 positions at the Department of Veterans Affairs have been cut — significant decreasing access to services like disability benefits, caregiver aid, and mental health services. These actions are completely contrary to what veterans, military, and the American public deserve. We must fight actions that put all of us in danger and call on lawmakers to ensure life-saving resources are available for those who need it most.
Join us in learning more about insurrection, the powers behind what happened on January 6, and what this means for gun violence prevention. [[link removed]]

This Pride Month, We Remember — And We Act
This June, we are celebrating Pride Month by honoring the strength, joy, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. Brady activists and supporters have been rallying, marching, and getting loud nationwide.
[link removed] [[link removed]]
We are also remembering the LGBTQ+ lives lost to gun violence, amplified by the lethal combination of hate and easy access to firearms. Thursday marked nine years since the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, where 49 people were killed and 53 more were injured. And years later, hate-fueled violence against LGBTQ+ Americans is not just a memory — it’s an escalating threat.
The Trump administration has rolled back protections for LGBTQ+ individuals and has continuously threatened the security of life-saving healthcare for trans people. Meanwhile, hate crimes — especially those involving firearms — continue to rise.
We don’t have to accept this reality. The Disarm Hate Act would keep guns out of the hands of people convicted of hate crimes and is a critical step toward a safer country for ALL people..
Together, we can honor lives lost and prevent future tragedies. Please, take action today and tell Congress to pass the Disarm Hate Act. [[link removed]]

Happy Father’s Day!
[link removed] [[link removed]]
Tomorrow is Father’s Day — a time to celebrate dads with backyard barbecues, handmade cards, and quality time spent with the people who matter most. But we at Brady also know that this isn’t possible for many families because gun violence has turned the day into one of grief.
Fred Guttenberg, a survivor of gun violence and senior advisor at Brady, is one of those fathers. After his daughter, Jaime, was killed in the Parkland shooting, Fred was forced into a role no parent should ever have to play. He became a tireless advocate, not because he wanted to, but because tragedy left him no choice. And he’s not alone.
Across the country, dads like Fred are turning pain into purpose. Every dad deserves to raise their kids in a world where they won’t be shot and killed. And kids deserve to grow up without a parent being taken by gun violence.
This Father’s Day, we honor the dads who have shown up in the wake of violence, we take action on behalf of those grieving a loved one, and we call on fathers to advocate for change before tragedy strikes. Help Dads For Gun Safety reach their goal of 1 million people who have pledged to advocate for action to end gun violence. [[link removed]]
