Before the 2024 election, Keir Starmer promised growth for all regions. Sadiq Khan assured us that London would have the “winds of a Labour Government at our back.”

But less than one year into Government, Labour have turned their backs on London.

Elected Liberal Democrats are working tirelessly to stand up for people across London.

Yesterday MP Bobby Dean asked Chancellor Rachel Reeves in Parliament if Sadiq Khan had been wrong to put his trust in a Labour Government. Senior London Liberal Democrats, including our Parliamentary London Spokesperson MP Luke Taylor, called on the Government to ensure the Metropolitan Police gets a fair share of the new funding for police forces. And my colleague in the London Assembly Gareth Roberts said in a statement that: “Londoners deserve a properly resourced police service, not empty promises.”

Despite being from the same party, the Labour Government continues to ignore this Labour Mayor’s repeated calls for funding for major infrastructure in London - raising serious questions about their commitment to London.

This isn’t the tailwind Labour promised London, it’s tumbleweed – and it’s a total betrayal of the millions of Londoners who put their faith in a Labour Government.
