Trump's tariff war is entering a crucial new phase. In just a few weeks’ time he is threatening to blow up the global economy once again if countries around the world don't cave in to his demands. Yet even allies like the EU and Canada are refusing to be bullied.
One country, however, has already given ground on Trump's tariff threats: the United Kingdom. And it has done so by firing the starting pistol on a full US-UK trade deal that gives up power to the giant US corporations which stand behind the president.
Worryingly, there’s very little evidence to suggest that Keir Starmer is prepared or willing to stand up to Trump’s agenda. Instead, he seems ready to rush into a deal that could weaken our rights, lower standards and undermine the protections we, and movements like ours before, have fought so hard to win.
