We know from Trevor research that 60% of LGBTQ+ young people report experiencing discrimination in the past year because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. They’ve struggled to find a safe space to be themselves.

Safe, welcoming spaces and loving, accepting communities are critical to the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ young people. We know that LGBTQ+ youth who reported living in very accepting communities attempted suicide at less than half the rate of those who reported living in very unaccepting communities.

And when LGBTQ+ young people report feeling accepted by just one adult, their odds of attempting suicide are significantly lower. In many instances, by more than 40%.
