This isn’t the update I hoped to send, but I need to be transparent with you.
We’re nearly halfway through June, and we’ve brought in 5,583 grassroots donations. That’s nearly 7,000 fewer than this point last month, and I’m worried.
Running for governor is expensive. I don’t come from wealth, and I don’t have the means to self-fund this race like my opponents. I’ve never had that kind of money. So from day one, we’ve done this differently.
We’re building this campaign with grassroots support — with the help of tens of thousands of folks who believe, like I do, that New Mexico needs a governor who understands what it means to struggle and who will fight fiercely to ensure we all can succeed. Our average online donation of $32 is proof of that.
That’s why this unexpected downturn worries me. We’re in a critical phase of our campaign — the field is getting more crowded, there are rumors a self-funded Republican might jump in, and we need to make investments now to continue building an undeniable movement across our great state.
If we fall behind now, we risk ceding ground we can’t win back. We can’t afford that with Trump and national Republicans watching this race closely and gearing up to spend big to flip New Mexico red. But I believe in this team.
So we’ve set an urgent goal: 10,000 donations by Monday, June 15, at midnight. That’s what it’ll take to help us catch up and continue growing a powerful campaign as we head into the summer months.
