Three Meaningful Ways to Support Veterans This Weekend
While Donald Trump rolls tanks down Pennsylvania Avenue to the tune of $40 million, the very veterans who once operated those machines are facing major funding cuts, seeing their lifesaving health care programs put at risk, and watching their financial assistance and mental health services slowly chipped away by Trump and Republicans.

This weekend, Democrats are activating supporters to show up for veterans who are being left behind by the Trump Administration. Here’s how you can honor service with action.

1. Support Organizations Doing the Work, like VoteVets

Because of the Trump administration’s chaotic funding cuts, the VA system is in crisis, and veterans’ health care access, housing programs, and benefits have all been put at risk. And MAGA Republicans are only making it worse as they continue to push to shrink essential services.

Organizations like VoteVets are fighting back. Through public campaigns, they amplify veterans’ voices on the issues that matter most, from health care access to national security. Your support helps them hold leaders accountable and ensure veterans get the care and dignity they deserve.

2. Uplift Veterans in Your Own Community

Right in your community, there are veterans struggling with housing insecurity, job transitions, mental health, and access to care. While Republican leaders play politics with their lives, local organizations are filling in the gaps.

Identify a local nonprofit that supports veterans. Whether it’s a shelter offering transitional housing, a legal clinic helping navigate VA claims, or a food bank running a special program for veterans, these groups are often under-resourced and overburdened.

Here are a few things you can do:

  • Volunteer for a shift or sign up to help at an upcoming event.

  • Make a donation to cover urgent needs like transportation or hygiene kits.

  • Ask how your workplace or community group can sponsor a project or drive.

3. Reach Out to a Veteran In Your Life.

Sometimes the most powerful action is a personal one. If there’s a veteran in your life like a family member, coworker, neighbor, or friend, take a few minutes to reach out. Ask how they’re doing. Let them know you care. Veterans have earned their right to be heard.

If they’ve been affected by recent cuts, encourage them to share their story with VoteVets’ tipline.
