Port of Tacoma Commission to meet June 17

Port of Tacoma Commissioners on June 17 will consider authorizing work associated with several projects, including the Upper Clear Creek habitat project, the Neptune environmental clean-up and pre-development, and remediation at the former PQ facility property. Commissioners will also consider authorizing a dock at the Port Maritime Center and international travel. Pierce County Construction Career Day provides hands-on experience for students exploring careers in the trades

It’s not your typical career fair. Here, dressing for success means attendees wear hard hats and reflective vests. Instead of handing out resumes, job seekers try their hand at operating a crane. Pierce County Construction Career Day is an annual event presented by the Port of Tacoma and held at the Washington State Fairgrounds where local high school students come to learn about diverse career opportunities in construction, utilities, and the trades industries. The atrium of the Port of Tacoma’s administration building became a temporary gallery on May 8, as students from Fife High School and Columbia Junior High School shared their art. Vanessa Audett joins Port as Chief Human Resources Officer

Vanessa Audett has joined the Port of Tacoma as Chief Human Resources Officer, where she oversees the development and implementation of human resources programs for both the Port and The Northwest Seaport Alliance. Audett comes to the Port from the City of Federal Way, where she served as Human Resources Director. She previously held similar leadership roles at the City of SeaTac and UtilX Corporation.
