# [#]As you may have heard, ICE recently raided a local institution, Buona Forchetta restaurant here in South Park. They sent in 20 federal agents with machine guns and flash-bang grenades, dispersing civilians dining on an otherwise peaceful night, and ultimately arresting four employees.

You would have thought they were going after a drug kingpin or dangerous criminal – the campaign platform on which Trump ran – but instead, their targets at Buona Forchetta and in raids across the country are hardworking people who contribute to our economy.

My question is this: How does scaring restaurant patrons and arresting dishwashers and line cooks make us safer? The answer is: it doesn’t.

Trump and MAGA Republicans in Congress use “waste, fraud, and abuse” to justify slashing billions of dollars in funding for Medicaid and SNAP, firing VA employees, and gutting federal services that keep us safe and healthy.

But – the real waste is federalizing California’s national guard for Trump’s manufactured crisis, and sending 20 law enforcement agents in full military tactical gear to detain 4 people and intentionally intimidate a restaurant full of employees and civilians.

It’s time to take a stand to protect our neighbors and defend their humanity.

I joined my colleagues to demand answers and accountability for ICE’s aggression in the South Park raid, and the concerns it raises about the Trump Administration’s use of intimidation tactics to sow fear instead of upholding the law. Rest assured that I will continue to put pressure on the Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and ICE as long as they continue to inflict violence and sow chaos in our communities – because if we don’t hold them accountable now, they won’t stop with just San Diego.
