Email from Rep. Salazar As always it is an honor representing you and your family in Washington, D.C. FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 119, Issue #13 Dear Friends/Amigos, This week, I returned to Washington D.C. to stand up for the priorities and concerns of our community. As your representative, I am deeply committed to advocating for the values and needs of our district in our nation’s capital. Every vote I cast and every decision I make in Washington is grounded by conversations I've had with you. Your input is not only important, it’s vital. Follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and X for updates from Capitol Hill and from across our district. And if you'd like to reach out directly, don't hesitate to call or write to my D.C. office at (202) 225-3931 or visit Salazar.House.Gov. Sincerely/Atentamente, María E. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) I Made the Following Statement on Immigration Today, Rep. Maria Salazar made the following comment: “President Trump himself has acknowledged what so many of us already know: long-time workers, many of whom have built their lives in this country, are being taken away. Our construction sites, our hotels, and our farms are feeling the impact. It’s time for Congress to act and bring a solution. That’s why, before the end of the month, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar and I will lead a bipartisan group of our colleagues in introducing a revolutionary piece of legislation that will offer real solutions to fix our immigration system and finally bring order to chaos for good.” You can see the statement here. I Met with Members of the American-Peruvian Community This week, I met with members of the Peruvian community in Washington, D.C., to celebrate their contributions to Miami and discuss key issues affecting both the Peruvian community and the broader Miami area. Over 32,000 Peruvians call Miami-Dade home. They love freedom, faith, and family, and I’m proud to represent a community that proves every day: the American dream is alive! I look forward to continuing my support for this vital part of the community and to championing the interests of all of Miami. The Peruvian-American community has played an important role in shaping Miami. From small business owners, teachers, truckers, and nurses to students who inject elements of Peru’s rich culture into our district, the Peruvian community continues to play a vital role in our society. Recently, I had the honor of presenting Chef Juan Chipoco, founder of CVI.CHE 105, with a Special Congressional Recognition and the prestigious “Marca Perú” distinction for bringing the flavors and pride of Peru into everyday life. I hope the Peruvian community will stand with me as I work every day to bring growth and opportunities to our district. I Sent a Joint Letter to ICE Requesting Detailed Criminal Data of Deportees I joined five fellow Republican members of Congress calling on the Trump Administration to request detailed data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding the criminal backgrounds of roughly 100,000 individuals deported since January. The goal is to assess how many of these removals involved charges or convictions for serious crimes. We also emphasized the need to prioritize enforcement in a way that maximizes impact: “While we are a nation governed by laws—and those who enter illegally should be held accountable—our limited enforcement resources must be directed at those who pose the greatest risk. Every officer deployed to detain a nonviolent individual with a clean record is one less available to pursue terrorists or cartel affiliates,” we wrote. The letter concludes with a pledge to work alongside President Trump to reinforce border security and uphold public safety by ensuring enforcement operations remain focused on criminal and high-risk actors. Signatories include: Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL-27) Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-TX-15), CHC Vice Chair of Communications Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY-11), CHC Vice Chair of Policy Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-22) Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO-08) Background: Established in 2003, the Congressional Hispanic Conference is comprised of Republican lawmakers of Hispanic heritage or those representing heavily Hispanic districts. Together, they represent over 8 million constituents across key states along the southern border, including Texas, Florida, California, Arizona, Colorado, and New York. The CHC remains committed to advancing policies that strengthen national security and empower Hispanic communities across the nation. You can view the letter here.
