Rescissions Package from the White House

House Republicans passed the One Big Beautiful Bill and are now working to pass a rescissions package that would officially codify President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency’s cuts to government spending. Check out my latest videos on our progress codifying the DOGE cuts:

Homeland Hearing on Cartels and the Coast Guard

This week, I participated in a hearing that provided an opportunity to examine the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to deter, detect, and disrupt illicit maritime activities that threaten our national security and undermine the rule of law. Securing our maritime border is essential to protecting our national security. Confronting these threats protects the safety of our families and communities across our nation. Watch my opening remarks and questioning here:

H.R. 2096 — Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act

* H.R. 2096 restores two provisions recently removed by the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022, including the Metro Police Department officer union bargaining in matters of officer discipline, as well as the timeline under which such discipline must be carried out for alleged wrongdoing.

H.R. 884 — To prohibit individuals who are not citizens of the United States from voting in elections in the District of Columbia and to repeal the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022

* H.R. 884 prohibits noncitizens from voting in D.C. local elections and repeals the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act.

S. 331 — HALT Fentanyl Act

* S. 331 permanently designates fentanyl analogues into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), to remove incentives for the creation of new dangerous substances.

Rescissions Bill

This week, the House voted on a rescissions package to codify $9.4 billion in cuts to wasteful spending identified by President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).  This rescissions package is another valuable tool that House Republicans are using to reduce spending and enhance our efforts in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the appropriations process.

Introducing our Summer Interns

I am honored to introduce one of my office’s summer interns, Garrett Ramsey.  Garrett is from Brandon, Mississippi, and is studying political science with a minor in homeland security at Mississippi College. Garrett plans to attend law school following his graduation from MC. Garrett has been a huge asset to our office and helps us assist the people in Mississippi’s Third Congressional District. I cannot thank Garrett enough for all his hard work.
