Legislative Update
1
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Wow—what a whirlwind this session has been! After the May 19 deadline came and went with less than half of Minnesota’s budget approved, we jumped right into a one-day special session. And I’m proud to say House Republicans rolled up their sleeves and made some real progress.
For too long, Minnesota’s been stuck in a cycle of reckless spending, sky-high tax hikes, and policies that just don’t work. After two years of one party spending an $18 billion surplus like it was Monopoly money, hiking taxes by $10 billion, and nearly doubling state spending, it was time for a reset. Thanks to our evenly split House, we put the brakes on the madness and started putting Minnesotans first again.
Here’s the quick rundown on what we fought for and won during the special session:
*
*No new taxes on Minnesota families.* We blocked the governor’s sales tax hikes, stopped the creation of an $8 billion fifth-tier income tax bracket, and rejected expanding sales taxes to professional services. Your wallet can breathe easy—for now.
*
*Ended taxpayer-funded health care for adult illegal immigrants.* This program was ballooning out of control, and we stepped in to protect taxpayers and keep things sustainable.
*
*Biggest government spending cut in state history.* We slashed $2 billion in this special session, bringing total reductions to $5 billion less than the last budget. Responsible budgeting that puts Minnesotans first!

Public Safety Wins That Matter
As Chair of the House Public Safety Committee, I’ve been laser-focused on keeping Minnesotans safe and supporting the brave men and women on the front lines. Here’s what we locked in:
*
Tougher penalties for first-degree sex trafficking, fentanyl exposure to kids, assaulting jail deputies and firefighters/EMS, plus extending the clock on first-degree arson cases.
*
Over $10 million in new funding for police and first responders.
*
Stopped ridiculous fee hikes on your cell phone bills that were meant to bankroll a radical agenda.
*
Rejected divisive DEI requirements in crime victim service grants.
*
Protected school resource officers from harmful restrictions.
*
Expanded law enforcement’s ability to use drones and tracking tech for chasing down fleeing vehicles—something our officers asked for and desperately need.
*
Blocked direct grants to partisan nonprofits and prevented extreme retroactive laws targeting aiding and abetting murder charges.
*
Kept prosecutors’ hands free to do their jobs, including prosecuting pregnant women for drug use when tragic fetal deaths occur.
*
Stopped new model policy mandates for police traffic stops.
*
And no hearings on extreme DFL gun control bills—no bans around polling places, no mandatory training to buy guns, no registry nonsense.

Holding Justice Accountable: Feeding Our Future Fraud
1
Now, for something that really hits home—the Feeding Our Future scandal. This is the biggest pandemic-era fraud case in the entire nation, where millions of taxpayer dollars meant to feed hungry Minnesota kids were stolen. The feds have charged 72 people so far, but there are hundreds more involved who may never see justice because federal resources are stretched too thin.
That’s why I sent this letter to Attorney General Ellison calling on him to step up. It’s time for his office to open investigations, prosecute offenders under state law if the feds won’t, and be completely transparent with the public and the Legislature.
This isn’t about politics—it’s about justice for the kids who went hungry and the hardworking taxpayers who deserve better. I’ll keep pushing for accountability until Minnesotans see real results.
