What to know about June 14 “No Kings Day” protests

  • Millions will rally nationwide tomorrow for "No Kings Day" to protest President Donald Trump’s extreme, authoritarian agenda. The ACLU told Democracy Docket that the demonstrations are about "sending a strong message that we are going to have a free and fair democracy." 

Judge halts Trump’s anti-voting decree

  • A federal judge halted provisions of Trump’s anti-voting order that required documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration and targeted mail-in ballot receipt deadlines. The judge said the order would have likely disenfranchised voters. 

More blocks against Trump’s authoritarian power quest

  • Last night a federal judge issued a sweeping order blocking Trump’s unprecedented seizure of California’s National Guard, calling the move illegal and a “dangerous precedent.”

  • A Maryland federal judge blocked Trump's firing of three Biden-appointed members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

A win for Maine voters

  • A Maine court upheld the wording of a ballot question on voter ID and absentee voting restrictions, rejecting a challenge from anti-voting plaintiffs who wanted the language to downplay the suppressive aspects of the measure.

DOJ and North Carolina collude to tighten voting rules 

  • Two weeks after Republicans took control of North Carolina’s elections, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the new board.

  • The lawsuit demands the board move more quickly to address minor flaws with voter registration information — a process that advocates fear could lead to a massive voter purge.
