Hey John, it's Nico from Sunrise LA.

It’s been an intense week here, but also a moving, inspirational, and clarifying one. I'll be helping launch our national campaign next week, and in a moment, I'm going to ask you to join our launch call [[link removed]] .

But first, I wanted to share a few of my takeaways from the week.

1) The people of Los Angeles are amazing. What’s happening is heartbreaking, but I’ve also seen people come together in beautiful ways. I’ve seen neighbors come together to protect undocumented loved ones, communities step up to care for one another, and thousands across the region rise up to defeat the cruel and inhumane Trump agenda. Organizing and community building can do amazing things.

2) The fascists are much weaker than they appear. As the fascist forces have unmasked, we’ve seen the cracks in their facade. Their chaotic attempts to hold on power reeks of desperation. Fascists are always doomed to lose.

You don’t deploy the National Guard if you’re not afraid of what protests might grow into. You don’t shove a Senator to the ground for asking a question if you have a good answer to his question. You don’t cancel town halls and shut down debate in Congress on legislation unless you are afraid of people realizing that you’re cutting healthcare and food stamps for millions of people.

Our mission is to organize the millions of young people who are sick and tired of the status quo, who want good jobs, healthcare, lower rent, a four day work week, and a stable planet. If we harness the power of our generation, we can change this country and the world. But it’s going to take all of us, and we need to get to work.

3) That’s what Sunrise’s new campaign is all about. We’re organizing to End the Oligarchy and Save our Futures. We’re building a powerful youth movement that’s able to disrupt business as usual and bring down the oligarchy that’s letting Trump (and all corporate-backed politicians) hold onto power.

I’m honored to be joining an amazing line-up of speakers next Wednesday to launch this campaign and share our plans.

So, if you’ve been watching everything go down and feeling demoralized or frozen or a little skeptical that we can do anything, my ask is that you give next week’s call a try.
