This is going to be a longer email, but I needed to get some things down in writing.
This has been a very trying week for my home state of California. Between the heartwrenching stories of families being ripped apart to Trump sending the military into Los Angeles to DHS’ mistreatment of Senator Alex Padilla, it really feels like our state, and our communities, are under attack.
I want to be very clear: we have laws and a Constitution here in our country and our President has a duty to follow them. As citizens, we also have a duty to make our voices heard. That’s why I have publicly demanded that the Trump Administration immediately deescalate the situation and follow the law.
All of this is leading up to tomorrow, where Trump is throwing himself a military parade in D.C. for his birthday. Tanks. Artillery launchers. Thousands of U.S. troops.
It’s a taxpayer-funded spectacle designed to stroke Trump’s ego and turn our brave servicemembers into political props. It will end a week marked by scenes we never thought we'd witness in this country.
I know people are feeling scared and overwhelmed. Know that I stand with you and many of my colleagues do as well. We can, and must, make our voices heard.
You are receiving this email because Congressman Josh Harder is one of our last lines of defense to protect our democracy against MAGA extremists like Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
