On June 14, The Progressive launches #FightBackPressForward—a critical day of fundraising and action to defend press freedom and secure the future of independent, truth-driven journalism.

As you know, the stakes could not be higher. The National Guard and U.S. Marines have been mobilized in Los Angeles, and protests are erupting across the country in response to the dangerous consolidation of power and the authoritarian overreach of Donald Trump. His grip on the country is tightening—from silencing dissent and weaponizing the legal system to inciting violence and dismantling democratic norms.

We are witnessing an unprecedented disaster unfold, and journalism is one of the last institutions standing in its way.

Independent media must survive. Our work is to expose the truth, challenge lies, and give the public the facts they need to resist tyranny. In a moment when the state is cracking down, when book bans, election denialism, and coordinated disinformation campaigns are on the rise, a free and fearless press is not just important—it’s essential.

That’s why we’re asking you to stand with us tomorrow. June 14, 2025, marks a day of resistance—and a tribute to two opposing Americas:

  • One, built on justice, transparency, and the people's voice—represented by our founder, Fighting Bob La Follette.
