Friend,
You probably saw that yesterday my colleague and friend Sen. Alex Padilla was slammed to the ground and handcuffed after asking a question of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
As Sen. Padilla said, if this is how they respond to a senator with a question, you can only imagine what they’re doing to farm workers, cooks, and day laborers in LA and across the country.

After seeing this shocking assault on a U.S. Senator, my colleagues and I marched together to Senate Leader John Thune’s office to demand an investigation. As long as Republicans in Congress are silent, they’re complicit in Trump’s attacks on our fundamental rights.
This assault was an alarming example of the growing authoritarianism being driven by Donald Trump.
Whether it’s his illegal roundups and deportations without due process or his deployment of military troops on the American people, we MUST continue to speak out, peacefully and forcefully.
That’s why this Saturday I’ll be participating in the No Kings protests taking place in San Antonio. And I encourage you to check out local protests in your community. If we want to protect this country from rising authoritarianism, it’s going to take ALL of us.
Chip in $20, or whatever you can, to help me keep fighting back against the Trump administration’s assault on our democracy. Your support helps our team sound the alarm in Texas and across the country.
Thank you,
-Joaquin
