Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
As we head into another busy weekend in DC, I want to thank the many people who helped make WorldPride 2025 such a success. I’m grateful to InterPride for selecting Washington, DC as the host and to the Capital Pride Alliance and community organizers for supporting more than 380 successful events across all eight wards.
And throughout the summer, we have an incredible lineup of events happening across the city. This Wednesday, at Sycamore & Oak, we kicked off a weekly concert series, Majic Wednesdays – a partnership between Radio One and Majic 102.3 FM. This weekend is also the DC/DOX Film Festival and next weekend is the National Capital BBQ Battle and the Home Rule Music Festival. And there’s more to look forward to: Fourth of July celebrations, the Downtown DC Concert Series, DC Jazz Fest, and more. You can find more information about events happening citywide at summer.dc.gov/summerevents [ [link removed] ].
These are the types of events that helped us break our tourism record in 2024 when we welcomed more than 27 million visitors to our city. And we know: when people fill our streets and sidewalks, fill our shop and restaurants, and fill our hotels and convention center – that’s good for jobs, good for revenue, and good for DC. It’s also why in my Fiscal 2026 Growth Agenda, we’re leaning in heavy on sports and other parts of the live entertainment industry.
Finally, I want to remind everyone that this weekend, we’re hosting thousands of visitors for the Army 250th Birthday Festival and Parade, and you can learn about road closures and more at nsse.dc.gov [ [link removed] ].
Sincerely,
Muriel Bowserjohn glen

Reminder: Trash Collection Slides for Juneteenth
Juneteenth
The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will not collect household trash and recycling on Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19. Trash and recycling collections will “slide” for the remainder of the week into Saturday. For example, households that normally receive trash and recycling collections on Thursday will be serviced on Friday.
