John,
Last month, Republicans in the House passed a budget that cuts $715 billion in Medicaid funding over the next decade and I proudly voted against it.
Here in my district, over 100,000 people rely on Medicaid for essential health care services. These cuts would leave many without access to the care they need, while also driving up costs for those with private insurance.
But it’s not just Long Islanders who will be affected. If these cuts go through, the entire country will feel the effects:
- Health care premiums will rise for everyone, as hospitals are forced to pass the costs onto consumers.
- Hospitals and clinics will be forced to cut services or even close, leaving rural and underserved areas without the care they need.
- State budgets will face massive shortfalls, leading to higher taxes and cuts to vital services like education and infrastructure.
We can’t let this happen. The stakes are too high for us here on Long Island and for every American across the country.
I’m fighting against these cuts in Congress, but I need to know you have my back in this fight. That’s why I’m asking you to sign my petition today to show your support for Medicaid and send a message to Republicans that we won’t stand by and watch them dismantle this crucial program.

Together, we can stop these harmful cuts and ensure health care remains accessible for all Americans.
Thank you for standing with me,
Laura Gillen
