John -- we thought we’d change things up and send you some feel-good content to brighten your day.
Earlier this week, during a press conference advocating for commonsense gun safety measures -- specifically, longer background checks for firearms purchases -- Jim stepped in to lend a helping hand. Or in this case, two.
Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who often brings her children to work, brought her 4-month-old son Sam to the press conference. As she prepared to speak, Jim didn’t hesitate to step up, holding her baby so she could focus on delivering her message.
As a proud father of three daughters, grandfather to four grandchildren, and great-grandfather to one, Jim’s parental instincts are second nature. But beyond the sweet moment, this press conference underscored an important point:
- The urgent need for stronger background checks to help keep our communities safe.
- The importance of allowing members of Congress to vote remotely during parental leave to ensure parents like Rep. Pettersen can fully participate in the legislative process while caring for their families.
Even in the middle of fighting for serious reforms, we’re reminded of Jim’s compassion, leadership, and humanity.
We hope this video brightened up your day!
