John,
Donald Trump has deployed 4,700 troops against Californians protesting the mass deportation of their friends, family members, and neighbors. He has done this over the objections of California’s democratically elected leadership, and even the LAPD.
Meanwhile, Trump’s Secretary of Homeland Security told reporters that the troops would be “staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this Governor and that this Mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city.” Then she had California’s own Senator Alex Padilla dragged out of the press briefing and handcuffed.
On the other side of the country, Trump is throwing himself a $45 million parade of tanks through the streets of Washington DC for his 79th birthday. This is what fascism looks like.
At the same time, Republicans in Congress are advancing Trump’s Big Beautiful Betrayal — a bill that would kill 51,000 Americans every year, most of them seniors and people with disabilities.
That’s what the fascism is for―they want Americans afraid to speak up to Trump’s oligarchic agenda, so that they can steal our health care and our Social Security and line the pockets of billionaires like Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
We’re not afraid. We’re still mobilizing to STOP Trump’s agenda, on Capitol Hill and around the country. Can you chip in to our fearless advocacy to save Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security from Trump?
The Big Bill rips health care, including Medicaid and Affordable Care Act coverage, away from 16 million Americans. It would force hospitals and nursing homes around the country to shut their doors, leaving entire communities hundreds of miles from care in an emergency. All to give trillions in tax handouts to millionaires and billionaires who already have more money than they need.
Some politicians and pundits have suggested that the National Guard deployment is a distraction to keep the media from focusing on the Big Betrayal. In fact, they are tied together as part of Trump’s ongoing war on due process and democracy.
In a world where Congressional Republicans cared what their constituents want, this bill would never become law. There is not a single Congressional district in the United States where more than 15 percent of voters support cuts to Medicaid.
This is the behavior of Republicans who do not believe there will be a free and fair election in 2026 or 2028. And Trump is taking the first steps to make that a reality by violently suppressing protest, and putting handcuffs on his political opponents.
We can fight back, and we can win. But we must keep focused and fighting. Can you rush a donation today?
Thank you,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
