House Republicans just voted along party lines to slash billions of dollars from global health programs and eliminate all federal funding for public broadcasting, including NPR, PBS, and Maine Public.
I voted no. I believe these reckless cuts would gut independent, nonpartisan public media that rural Mainers rely on and dismantle life-saving global health initiatives like PEPFAR, the bipartisan AIDS program that’s saved over 25 million lives worldwide.
Yes, the Administration should go through Congress to reclaim unused funds rather than unilaterally making these decisions on their own. But this bill picks the wrong targets. We need smarter, more responsible solutions.
