No Lifeguards on Duty? Thanks Trump.

Dear Neighbor,

With New Jersey’s beach season now in full swing, I am gravely concerned about the impact of the Trump Administration’s policies on Sandy Hook. I wrote a letter to Trump’s Interior Secretary to demand answers as to why the National Park Service is failing to hire the lifeguards, maintenance staff, and other essential personnel needed to safely operate the beaches and facilities at Sandy Hook this summer.

It is unacceptable for the government to allow potentially dangerous and filthy conditions at our national parks by failing to hire the necessary staff to protect beachgoers and clean facilities during the busiest season of the year. The Trump Administration is depriving New Jersey taxpayers of their right to the services their hard-earned dollars are paying for, including the beautiful Sandy Hook beaches that families have enjoyed for years. I will keep pushing for answers and accountability.

Save the Job Corps Program

I joined 198 of my colleagues in signing a bipartisan letter to Trump’s Labor Secretary urging the Department to reverse its decision to shut down Job Corps centers in Edison and across the country. Our letter calls on the Trump administration to preserve this critical program that helps young people build skills and secure stable employment.

Nearly 20,000 young people nationwide rely on Job Corps to build vocational skills in fields like manufacturing, shipbuilding, and business services. With more than 120 centers nationwide, Job Corps provides one of the only targeted workforce development pipelines for Americans aged 16 to 24 who are neither in school nor employed – helping them access apprenticeships, higher education, and careers that fuel the country’s economic growth.

Trump’s Budget Guts Emergency Response Funds

The Trump Administration’s new budget proposal eliminates the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) – a federal initiative that ensures the states can respond to mass casualty events. This program is the backbone of New Jersey’s ability to respond to disasters. Without it, we’re flying blind as we prepare for millions of visitors to descend on our region for the World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary.

Eliminating this program is reckless – plain and simple. As Republicans in Congress help Trump gut the systems that keep people alive, I’m leading efforts in Congress to block the cut and fully restore HPP funding.

RFK’s Anti-Vax Agenda

This week, RFK Jr. announced he was firing all 17 members of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP), the panel that advises our nation on vaccines, so he can stack the panel with pseudo-science wackos. It’s dangerous and puts all of us—especially our nation’s children—at extreme risk.

It’s clear that Secretary Kennedy does not intend to uphold the commitments he made during Senate confirmation to not take away people’s access to vaccines. Instead, he intends to use his position to advance his dangerous pseudo-science agenda.

We need to take politics out of medicine, which is why I introduced legislation last week to protect access to vaccines for all Americans.

Republicans Double Down on Dirty Fossil Fuels

Trump’s Energy Secretary testified before my Energy and Commerce Committee this week to discuss Trump’s budget proposal, and the results were… as expected. He doubled down on Trump’s fossil fuel agenda that will pad the profits of his billionaire friends by raising energy costs on American families.

Trump’s budget will increase household energy costs, prioritize oil and gas, undermine clean energy, and gut energy assistance programs. At a time when energy demand is increasing, his budget will make it harder for our nation to meet the moment.
