Should you pay for hospital overhead when you see your doctor?

If you want a simple illustration of why health care costs continue to
skyrocket, take a look at this graph.



The number of hospital administrators has exploded, far outpacing the growth
in doctors. A main cause of higher health care costs is the consolidation of
hospitals, which creates regional monopolies and higher prices.

‌

Fortunately, there is a bill in Congress that will help prevent further
hospital consolidation.

‌

Believe it or not, Medicare pays hospital doctors more than independent
doctors for the same service. Not only is this unfair to patients, but it also
creates incentives for hospitals to buy up independent practices so they can
get a higher price! More hospital consolidation means more administrators that
you pay for.

‌

Congress is considering a bill to make Medicare pay the lower cost, so
hospitals can’t game the system, reducing overall health care spending by
nearly $157 billion over 10 years and strengthening Medicare.

‌
