Dear john,

As we continue Gun Violence Awareness Month, I want to remind you of an upcoming opportunity to connect with my office. On Wednesday, June 18th at 11 am, I will be convening a panel discussion with local policymakers, health care professionals, and community advocates who work in violence intervention to discuss the state of gun violence prevention work at home and across the country. The event will take place at New Hope AME Church (3012 Arden Road NW), and registration is required. I hope you will join us for this important conversation. To register and submit your questions, please RSVP.

Yesterday, Americans watched as Trump Administration officials forced my colleague Senator Alex Padilla to the ground while conducting oversight at a public event on behalf of his constituents. Like so many of us, I was horrified by the images and videos—no one should face violence while doing their job. I want my constituents to know this: fear has no place in our democracy. I won’t stop conducting oversight as your elected representative on behalf of the American people.

In Washington this week, Republicans forced through a bill that takes money away from public TV and radio, impacting programs that help countless families educate their children. These are funds that the Trump Administration have illegally frozen for months. I want you to know that I voted NO on this reckless decision—vital public programming and educational tools cannot be reserved only for those who can pay for it. We must continue speaking out about the impacts these dangerous cuts will have on children and their families.

My colleagues Rep. Lloyd Doggett, Senator Bernie Sanders, and I spoke at a press conference Thursday afternoon sounding the alarm about a Republican budget proposal that would drain resources from public schools toward voucher programs. Our families deserve better, and we will keep fighting to ensure that every child has access to a quality public education.

With hands raised, Rep. McBath speaks behind a podium featuring a sign that reads "Public Money Should Fund Public Schools." Rep. McBath is wearing a red jacket with an orange ribbon.

Did you know that roughly 1 in 5 undergraduate students in America are parents? As part of my work to support students with young children, I introduced bipartisan legislation supporting parenting students who are pursuing a college degree. The Understanding Student Parent Outcomes Act will help pregnant and parenting students get connected with child care, leave options, and other accommodations that are available to them at their schools.
