`Greetings!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives.

June 14, 2025, marks the 250th Birthday of the United States Army. Since its inception on June 14, 1775, the Army has played a crucial role in the growth and development of our nation. As a proud Veteran who served 21 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, I want to wish the U.S. Army a happy 250th Birthday.

We also celebrate Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the United States Flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The United States Flag serves as an undeniable symbol of freedom and liberty, and serves as a beacon of hope for many across the world.

On Sunday, June 15th, we will celebrate Father's Day. As a father to three daughters, I'd like to wish a happy Father's Day to all the dads across TX-22, the great state of Texas, and the United States!

This Week in Washington, D.C.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass Rescissions Package to Claw Back Over $9 Billion in Wasteful Spending

Washington, D.C., has a spending problem. For far too long, Americans' hard-earned tax dollars have been used to fund the Left's pet projects like radical DEI programs and Green New Deal-type policies, all the while our nation's deficit continues to balloon.

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025, which rescinds $9.4 billion in funding appropriated in Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 and FY 2025 from programs in the State Department and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Specifically, through H.R. 4, $8.3 billion is rescinded from foreign aid programs in the State Department, and $1.1 billion is rescinded from CPB, which funds National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

Did you know that PBS brings on left-leaning guests compared to right-leaning guests at a rate of 4.2:1? Further, NPR refused to cover the infamous Hunter Biden laptop story, claiming it was a "waste of time." There's no denying that PBS and NPR are mouthpieces of the Democrat Party. The United States of America isn't Russia or China. There is no reason we should have state-sponsored media.

I'm proud to say that this legislation cements a portion of the Department of Government Efficiency's (DOGE) spending cuts into law. In Congress, I will continue to work to codify DOGE cuts and ensure that your tax dollars are used to further advance the best interests of our country, not bankroll the Left's DEI, Green New Deal agenda.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass Key Legislation Protecting Americans' Rights and Condemning Antisemitism

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation aimed at preserving the sacred rights of U.S. citizens and reinforcing President Donald J. Trump’s restoration of American principles.

I proudly voted “YES” to pass the following major bills to protect the innate rights of American citizens:

  • H.R. 884, which prohibits non-U.S. citizens from voting in elections in the District of Columbia and repeals the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, a D.C. law.

  • H.R. 2096, the Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act, would reauthorize the opportunity for negotiations on disciplinary actions towards members and civilian employees of the Metropolitan Police Department of D.C. This bill is a crucial step in ensuring the protection of Washington, D.C. police officers right to due process, and codifying President Donald J. Trump’s “Make the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful” executive order.

I was also happy to join my House Republican colleagues to vote “YES” to pass H.Res. 481, a House Resolution that denounces antisemitic attacks, reaffirms our commitment to confronting rampant antisemitism across the country, and expresses appreciation for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for keeping the American people safe.

Department of State: Update on Passport Processing Times

My District Office team provides valuable assistance to constituents navigating the U.S. passport application process, especially for those facing urgent travel needs. While the office does not process passports directly, it can intervene on behalf of constituents to expedite applications through the U.S. State Department. This support is particularly beneficial for individuals with imminent international travel plans or emergencies requiring swift passport issuance.

As of June 2025, the U.S. Department of State estimates the following processing times:

  • Routine Service: Approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Expedited Service: Approximately 2 to 3 weeks, with an additional fee of $60.

Constituents seeking assistance should contact my Fulshear District Office with their passport application details and proof of travel plans. The office will coordinate with the appropriate federal agencies to facilitate the expedited processing of their passport applications. For further assistance or information, please call my office at 346-762-6600.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Announces the 2025 Congressional App Challenge

I am pleased to announce that my office is hosting a 2025 Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a competition designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding. Students are encouraged to register online and submit their app by October 30, 2025.

Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, this nationwide effort allows students to compete against their peers by creating an application (also known as an “app”) for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, raspberry Pi or other devices. We accept any programming language, such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or "block code." The Challenge is designed to promote innovation and engagement in computer science.

The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle and high school students in the 22nd Congressional District of Texas. Students entering the competition must submit their app to CongressionalAppChallenge.us during the Competition Submission Period through October 20, 2025, at 12 P.M. Eastern Time.

The winner from the 22nd Congressional District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us. The winning app will also be eligible to be on display in the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.

Resources for Hurricane Season

Being well-prepared for hurricanes and other natural disasters is crucial to protecting your family and minimizing disruption to daily life. Federal resources, such as those provided by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ready.gov, offer valuable guidance, including emergency alerts, disaster planning tools, and response checklists tailored to individual and family needs.

As hurricane season approaches, staying proactive can make a significant difference. Monitor trusted sources like the National Hurricane Center for real-time updates and establish a comprehensive emergency plan that covers evacuation routes, family communication, and essential supplies. It’s also wise to prepare your home by securing outdoor items, reinforcing windows and doors, and reviewing your insurance policies—especially for those in coastal or flood-prone areas.

For further assistance, FEMA’s Resource Library for Individual Assistance provides clear information on disaster support services, how assistance works, and what steps to take after applying. If you’ve already submitted a claim, visit I Applied for Assistance. What's Next? on FEMA.gov for guidance on next steps.

Be sure to check out my website for further local and state resources on how to prepare for a natural disaster.

If you have any questions or need support, please contact Congressman Nehls’ Fulshear District Office at (346) 662-6600. Our office is here to assist you throughout this hurricane season.
