Recently we heard from Jamal, a high school sophomore from the Bronx who joined our CLARIFY program with limited confidence in his writing abilities. After just eight weeks of participating in the program, Jamal along with students in his cohort published his first investigative piece about housing conditions in his neighborhood. "For the first time," he said, "I feel like my voice matters."
At City Limits, we believe every young New Yorker deserves the opportunity to develop their voice and prepare for future success. That’s why since 2015, we've empowered over 600 youth from low-income communities across all five boroughs through hands-on journalism training in our youth program, CLARIFY—but the need far exceeds our reach.
