Horrific news, John:

My colleague, Senator Alex Padilla was just handcuffed and detained by the Department of Homeland Security.

The crime? Asking a question of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem about what's happening in our state – just as we are elected to do.

This is a violation of his rights, and of long-held boundaries our executive branch must adhere to. Instead, Trump and his administration have again shown zero tolerance for dissent of any kind.

Californians have shown we won't be intimidated. And we won’t back down now.

Sign my petition DEMANDING that the Trump administration allow us to do the work we were elected to do, as protected by the First Amendment. Condemn the arrest of Sen. Padilla.
