Sometimes it’s nice to get away from Washington and back home, where folks work hard to find solutions for each other – a far cry from the politics you’d imagine by watching the bluster on social media and cable “news.”

It’s not easy in this environment of hate and division that extremists promote, but we have to always keep focus on the ones doing the work, not those yelling the loudest.

Below are some highlights from events over the past month that I wanted to share. But first and foremost, I want to thank you, friend. Your support allows me to support these people in making real, meaningful change. And I’m confident that if we keep going, we can bring that spirit of meaningful, working-class change back to Washington.

I was able to meet up with newly-elected Rock Island Mayor Ashley Harris to discuss his vision and how we can work together for the benefit of all in Rock Island. Congratulations to Mayor Harris for earning the privilege of serving our homes.

I saw firsthand how The Good Food Pantry in Macomb served families with dignity—and why we must protect SNAP benefits. In challenging times, places like these are essential. Thank you to everyone volunteering on the frontlines to tackle food insecurity in Western Illinois.

It was great to visit Green Current Solutions in East Moline—a small business doing big things for sustainability. I’m proud to stand with CEO Tammy Becker and support their model for innovation as well as women-owned business in the heart of the Quad Cities!

It was nice to meet up with Galesburg Mayor Peter Schwartzman at Judy’s Family Cafe in Galesburg—full plates, good conversation, and even better company! We talked about new projects in the work for Knox County and how we can work together to get the job done. It’s always a good day when it starts with pancakes and partnership!

And I got to appreciate the water on Mississippi River Day! I am thankful to be able to represent the people along our nation’s greatest river. While most Members of Congress search somewhere around the world for their favorite beach, mine is right here. No place I would rather be.

I’m so grateful to everyone in the district, and it’s the highlight of serving my community to meet my neighbors of IL-17 where they are.
