Dear John,

This week in the House Ways and Means Committee, we hosted U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as he testified before Congress about the Treasury’s efforts to advance the President's agenda. During the hearing, I got the chance to ask him about our committee's work to deliver historic tax relief, growing the affordable housing supply, and expanding the Child Tax Credit.

Legislative Update:

This week in the House, we voted to pass the HALT Fentanyl Act. This bill would make the temporary class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances (FRS) permanent. It also equips law enforcement with the tools they need to keep these extremely lethal and dangerous drugs off our streets.

The bill also ensures practitioners can research fentanyl-related substances so we can better understand their overall effects on human health. Fentanyl has claimed the lives of far too many Ohioans and Americans across our country, and this bill is another step to eliminating this terrible drug for good.

Also, this week, I joined a Ways and Means Work and Welfare Subcommittee hearing to discuss bipartisan solutions to improving the foster care system. To watch my questions for witnesses at the hearing, click here.

Delivering for Central Ohio:

This week, I announced that Columbus had officially received $750,000 in funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to improve its wastewater treatment capacity. This project, which I directly advocated for in Congress, will support the Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant Far East Train Project’s effort to expand the wastewater processing infrastructure in the Columbus area.

As families and businesses continue to flock to Columbus, it is imperative that we have the public utility infrastructure to match our growing demand. This project will help our wastewater infrastructure serve the increasing need. I was proud to partner with Mayor Ginther and community leaders in and around Columbus to identify this vital project and deliver Congressional funds to support it. By delivering these resources back to our community, we are cementing Ohio as the destination for families to live and work.

250 Years of the U.S. Army:

Tomorrow marks the 250th anniversary of the creation of the United States Army. From the country’s founding to the preservation of the Union to storming the beaches of Normandy, generations of brave men and women have answered our nation’s call to serve.

As an Army veteran, I’ve seen firsthand the courage and resilience that embedded in the Army. Please join me in honoring their service and extend our deepest gratitude to our soldiers, veterans, and military families.
