Hi John , Welcome to the latest New Pennsylvania Project newsletter! As this is our last newsletter ahead of the Juneteenth holiday, we want to take a moment to reflect on the historical significance of the holiday. Juneteenth commemorates the day, June 19th 1865, when enslaved Black people in Galveston, TX finally learned they were free from chattel slavery - although two years late - post the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebrates freedom. As civil rights icon, Fannie Lou Hamer proclaimed, “None of us are free until all of us are free.” Happy Juneteenth!
We invite you to read about our work, our upcoming events, and the ways you can safely participate in events happening across Pennsylvania. |
