As a nation, we are at our greatest when we enact humane and compassionate policies. Today’s Supreme Court decision to strike down the Trump Administration’s termination of the DACA program brings a sigh of relief to the nearly 800,000 lives that have been held in limbo since the rescission of the program in 2017.

Since its inception in 2012, the DACA program has empowered youth, brought to the United States as children, to come out of the shadows through a reprieve from deportation and a work permit. It enabled them to pursue their education, open businesses, and start families—comfortably growing roots in the only country many have ever called home.

To the DACA recipients serving as health professionals during the pandemic, nearly 62,000 strong, we see you.

To the DACA recipients working to support their families, we see you.

To the DACA recipients still in school, we see you.

We see you and we acknowledge your need for a more permanent solution. As it currently stands, the DACA program remains at the mercy of legal battles and changes in administrations. We see you and we stand with you in supporting meaningful immigration relief that includes a pathway to citizenship.

The Latino Texas Political Action Committee exists to increase the representation of Latinas and Latinos in elected positions and to hold all elected officials accountable to the Latino community, regardless of political party affiliation. Our community deserves policies which promote family unity and prosperity for us all.

We understand that our work is more important now than ever before and we are committed to holding those in power accountable to the needs of our community.
