Dear John,
Most of us know that solar power is one of the most reliable and affordable sources of clean electricity — and here in Maine, thousands of people are already saving money by joining community solar programs. But right now, lawmakers in Augusta are about to vote on a bill that could take those savings away. LD 1777 would retroactively hit solar projects with new fees — increasing electric bills by as much as 15%.
This new fee structure won’t just increase electric bills but could also put the brakes on new community solar projects across the state. That means fewer clean energy jobs, higher energy costs long-term, and more pollution from fossil fuels. All at a time when we desperately need solutions to lower bills and to fight climate change. Can we count on you to join us in telling Maine lawmakers to stand up for community solar?
