Dear June meeting attendees,

Thank you for attending our last Monthly Meeting and sticking it out as we relocated. As most of you know we were Zoom bombed Thursday night by several "trolls" who aimed to disrupt our meeting. Many of the things they said were intended to shock the audience and were quite disturbing. We are sorry that you had to experience this and hope you were able to recover.

Here are a few things we plan to do immediately to prevent another such incident:

  • We will look into some of the known issues with Zoom’s security and investigate whether a different program might offer us better security.

  • For the time being, we won't be posting our Zoom links on social media or the website.

  • You will need to RSVP for future meetings to get the link and password. Please do not post the link or share it with anyone. You must use the same email address you registered with to attend the meeting.

  • All participants will be muted upon entry and have to raise their hand to speak.

  • It will be helpful if you use your real first name and last initial to ID yourself in the meeting so we can more easily weed out non-members if necessary.

  • When we remove participants they will not be allowed back into the meeting.

  • We will be turning off person-to-person chat and just allow the group chat.

  • We are turning off the ability to use whiteboards and annotation and we will disable screen sharing until we determine it is safe.

  • If we are ever trolled again we will end the meeting much sooner and you should check your email for a new link.

Cyber bullying is a growing threat to free speech, but rest assured we will not be silenced! If you have additional suggestions we are open to hearing them.

Onward together!
