I’m sure you know by now that we try to be totally honest about our fundraising when we send you these emails. So, here’s the truth:
June 30th is an FEC deadline, which means that at the end of the month we’re legally required to report our fundraising numbers to the FEC.
The FEC is the Federal Election Commission. Every candidate for federal office has to report their numbers to the FEC at the end of each quarter (so in March, June, September, and December.) Those numbers are then posted publicly on their website for all to see.
This makes FEC deadlines crucially important for any campaign, because if you fail to put up strong numbers at the end of the quarter, it can send a signal to both your opponents and your supporters that you’re falling behind.
In our case, Big Oil, corporate special interests, GOP super PACs, the right-wing media, and many others will be looking to see if our movement still has the energy and the broad support we once did.
So, we're already 12 days into the month. And at our current rate, we are nowhere close to where we need to be to meet our goals before the FEC deadline closes on the 30th — over $15,000 short. We have time to close the gap, but only if everyone does their part.
