I’ve sat through a lot of tough hearings, but what happened yesterday in the House Ways & Means Committee was beyond the pale.
Trump’s Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, openly disrespected Members of Congress. When we pressed him on critical issues, he refused to engage respectfully, continually talked over and interrupted Members, and dismissed legitimate questions that deserve real answers.
Let me be clear: this isn’t about personal offense, this is about respect for the institution of Congress and the right of the American people to demand accountability from their government and those who come before congressional committees.
This kind of behavior is part of a dangerous pattern from the Trump administration: undermining accountability and treating our democracy with contempt. I’m not going to let that stand. But I need your help to keep up the fight.
