June as LIFE MONTH

June 24th marks the three-year anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade.  In honor of that decision, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, along with 27 of his Senate colleagues, and U.S. Representative Chris Smith, along with 13 of his House colleagues, introduced a Joint Resolution designating the month of June as Life Month.  

Resolution Summary:

• Celebrates the historic Dobbs decision;

• Recognizes “that every human life is a sacred gift from God, possessing inherent dignity and worth;”

• Thanks the people and organizations who protect the most vulnerable;

• Renews our national commitment to protect the unborn.

In an era when entire months are dedicated to recognizing every group under the sun, this is a momentous action that brings the value and dignity of every human life to the forefront of American hearts and minds.  

“Life is the foundation of every other right we hold dear.  Without it, there could be no liberty, no prosperity, no pursuit of happiness.  That’s why defending the right to life is a serious responsibility.  Designating June as Life Month is our way of saying that a just society is measured by how it treats the most vulnerable among us.  Let June be the month when we recommit to the American ideal that every single life has dignity.  Every little boy.  Every little girl.  There is no person beneath the law’s protection. Food & Drug Administration Commits to a Full Review of Abortion Drug

Following the release of the explosive 7-year study by The Ethics and Public Policy Center that more than one in ten women experience a serious adverse event following a mifepristone abortion - a rate 22 times higher than what the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the drug’s manufacturer, Danco Laboratories, have claimed (see GLA’s email here) - Senator Josh Hawley took action.  He sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary highlighting the new research that clearly demonstrates the great risks and dangers associated with the abortion drug while urging the Commissioner to reconsider his previous statement that he had “no plans to take action.”

Nationwide, Mifepristone abortions account for approximately 63% of abortions in the United States.  In Georgia, these painful and gruesome chemical abortions account for approximately 83% of all abortions, a full 20 points higher than the national average.

Please join us in calling on the FDA to, at bare minimum, immediately re-institute the safeguards including requiring mandatory doctor’s appointments and adverse reporting that were in place prior to 2016.  Most importantly, call on the FDA to reconsider the approval of Mifepristone altogether.

Biden-era Abortion Mandate

The Biden administration was relentless in its pursuit to expand abortion including manipulating and weaponizing Federal law.  Mere weeks after the Dobbs decision, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new guidance related to the 1986 Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).  The Biden Administration asserted that EMTALA could require abortion and could preempt protective pro-life state laws.

EMTALA was enacted by Congress in 1986 “to ensure public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay.”  EMTALA requires hospitals that receive Medicare funding to medically screen, stabilize, and appropriately transfer an individual with an “emergency medical condition.”  EMTALA contains a duty to both a pregnant woman and her unborn child.  It specifically references the “unborn child” four times and never references “abortion.”

The Trump administration has seen through the Biden administration’s weaponization of EMTALA to force pro-life states such as Georgia into providing abortions.

The Trump administration has made it clear:  EMTALA protects both the “pregnant woman” and the “unborn child" and brings clarity to emergency room doctors across the country.  Therefore, in states with pro-life laws such as Georgia, emergency room doctors no longer need to feel forced to perform abortions that would circumvent our life-affirming laws.
