Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—guided by Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan—our state has secured a historic opportunity. More than $10 billion in federal investment is slated for Alaska, with some already arriving and more expected. These funds promise to create thousands of jobs and build a stronger foundation for our future. From upgrading airports and roads to securing our ferry system and expanding broadband, these investments are crucial for our economy and quality of life.

But just as we’re prepared to score, a new D.C. agency—the Department of Government Efficiency—is trying to pull the ball away and change the rules. This isn’t just about holding back or canceling much-needed federal funds; the administration has also gutted the agencies responsible for permitting, oversight, and processing these funds. This has led to severe delays—stalling vital projects like roads, water systems, and broadband expansion—slowing down or even halting progress altogether. Every delay means jobs lost, communities left behind, and opportunities missed.

This reckless obstruction is a direct attack on Alaska’s future, and it’s a pattern we’re seeing in other states as well. The work we’re doing here in Alaska isn’t just for us—it can serve as a blueprint for other states fighting to protect their fair share of federal resources. We are actively collaborating with partners in other states to share strategies, amplify our voice, and push back against these harmful policies.
