Air Quality Alert impacts burning permits for central and southern Minnesota

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for central and southern Minnesota Wednesday, June 11 from now until Thursday, June 12 at 11 p.m.

To reduce additional air pollutants, burning permits will not be issued or activated for the impacted areas. Campfires are discouraged.

For up-to-date information on fire danger and burning restrictions, visit www.mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is moving into and across Minnesota behind a cold front. Much of Minnesota is expected to reach the orange air quality index (AQI) category, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.

For more information on the air quality alert, sensitive groups, and health effects, visit the MPCA current air quality webpage.

An air quality alert map shows Minnesota, with many central and southern counties shaded orange, indicating unhealthy air for sensitive groups.
