As a proud immigrant whose parents gave up everything to build a better life for our family, I’ve always admired America’s founding belief that if you work hard, you can build a better life in the land of the free.

That’s why I’m speaking out against Donald Trump’s reckless push to intimidate immigrant communities and punish cities that don’t fall in line with his extreme agenda. His use of federal troops in Los Angeles is the latest example of his dangerous abuse of power.

Let me be clear: our immigration system is broken – but tearing families apart, targeting elementary schools, and deporting American citizens with no due process or accountability only deepens fear and suffering. And it does nothing to improve the lives of those who live in our district.

My parents, like many others, fled the kind of political violence that Trump and Ryan Mackenzie are trying to inflict on our communities. We need real solutions, rooted in law, order, and humanity.
