This is a disturbing shift of what has been the U.S. government’s stated position on Palestine throughout various Democratic and Republican administrations for decades, and is clear support for the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
We have seen what has happened when Democrats allow Trump to shift U.S. policy on Israel. In Trump’s first term, he officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel - marking a significant escalation in the Israel-Palestine conflict and emboldening Israel’s genocidal regime. Democrats largely did nothing to oppose, and when Biden became President, they did nothing to reverse it.
If Democrats do not oppose Trump on ending U.S. support for a Palestinian state, the ramifications could be dire - opening the door for Israel to take its genocide from Gaza to the West Bank.
We need members of the House Progressive Caucus to be unanimous on this issue because the stakes couldn’t be higher. We cannot allow our government to embrace ethnic cleansing done by a foreign nation using weapons paid for with our taxes - it is a moral outrage.
That is why Clean Up the Caucus is calling for all members of the House Progressive Caucus to openly condemn Trump’s decision to end U.S. support for Palestinian statehood. We will hold any member who stays silent accountable for their complicity in Trump’s ethnic cleansing campaign. Can we count on you to chip in whatever you can spare to hold these so-called progressives accountable for their complicity with genocide?
