Legislative Update
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As my first session as your State Representative comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for the trust you've placed in me and for all the ways you’ve helped shape my work at the Capitol.
From day one, my mission has been clear: fight for our communities, protect our shared values, and deliver results for the people of Washington County. I’m proud to report that we’ve made meaningful progress together.
This year, we successfully stopped a massive funding shift that would have siphoned over $93 million away from Washington and other collar counties, diverting it instead to Minneapolis, St. Paul, and a few select suburbs. Thanks to the strong voices of our county officials and the power of community advocacy, we put an end to that unfair provision and ensured our transportation dollars stay local, where they belong. We were also successful in preventing another $200 million in cost shifts to counties in the Human Services Bill, which would have led to $6-7 million in cost shifts to Washington County.
We also worked hard to advance practical, common-sense legislation on the issues that matter most. My focus this session has been on stopping fraud, making MN more affordable, making MN safer, reducing burdensome mandates, ensuring tax dollars benefit Minnesotans, and building for the future. I’m proud to say we passed legislation addressing each of those pillars. While there is, of course, more work to do, we were able to accomplish a lot for Minnesotans, even with a historic 67-67 tied House.
Throughout the session, I’ve relied on your feedback, emails, phone calls, and conversations, to guide my decisions. Your input has made me a stronger representative, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to carry your priorities to St. Paul.
Now, as we look back on the 2025 legislative session, and l look forward to 2026, I’d like to invite you to join me for a Town Hall event to reflect on this year’s work and talk about what’s next.
This is your chance to speak directly with me, ask questions about the state legislative session, and share your vision for the future of our district and our state. I hope to see you there.
Thank you again for the honor of serving you. It’s a responsibility I carry with pride, and I’ll continue fighting every day to make government work for you.
