RESPONDING TO TORNADOES IN KENTUCKY

When a devastating storm hit eastern Kentucky on May 16th, Save the Children sprang into action, rushing vital supplies to children in crisis. We teamed up with state and local partners to deliver essential items like hygiene kits, diapers and wipes to families whose homes and communities were damaged or destroyed.


We're also providing families with cash assistance, so they can buy what they need most. Our teams are assessing the damage and preparing to help repair local child care and early learning centers devastated by the storm, ensuring kids can get back to learning and growing as soon as possible.

HELPING MALNOURISHED CHILDREN IN HAITI

In Haiti, more than half the population — 5.7 million people — are experiencing acute food insecurity due to ongoing violence. With fighting disrupting food supply chains, it’s difficult for parents to find and afford food for their families.


Marie was one of those parents. She didn’t have the income to purchase milk or food for her children, including 20-month-old Kiara. Save the Children screened Kiara for malnutrition and arranged for transportation and care at a local health center. Marie then participated in Save the Children financial training and received a grant to start her own business. Now, Marie is earning more income to provide for her family and Kiara is healthy and thriving.

KEEPING KIDS LEARNING IN INDONESIA

11-year-old Livi* was forced to flee her East Flores home when the Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano erupted violently last November. Though she and her family escaped harm, they lost everything — their home, their school and their sense of security. For three long months, they struggled to find stability, shifting between crowded shelters until finally, they found temporary housing.


Save the Children helped Livi and other children displaced by the disaster continue their education in emergency tents. However, due to the limited number of tents, two to three classes had to share one space, separated only by fabric dividers. So we worked with partners to build a new temporary learning area. Now, Livi and her friends enjoy better air circulation, sturdy desks and clean toilets.
