Friend – the White House just attacked me on Twitter.

Why? Because I spoke up for what’s right:

“We still don’t know the full consequences of this unprecedented authoritarian overreach. But let me be clear: Congressional Democrats stand in full solidarity with the residents of Los Angeles, with our immigrant sisters and brothers, and with the peaceful protestors who dare to speak out. And we will support every effort to oppose this president’s abuse of power. ”

Now, they’re trying to twist my words and fearmonger about immigrants:

But I will not budge, friend.Deploying the National Guard and setting daily quotas for ICE to rip people from their homes, workplaces, schools, and even graduations is not “Making America Safe.” It’s a violation of our values and of basic due process.

There’s nothing more American than standing up to this kind of government tyranny: it is the very basis of this nation’s founding. That’s why people are protesting in Los Angeles and around the country – peacefully, courageously, and in defense of their neighbors.

This is personal to me, friend. As the daughter of Jamaican immigrants and a lifelong New Yorker, I know how much immigrants contribute to the very fabric of our nation. As the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, I will always stand for justice and dignity for everyone.

But the White House is trying to silence voices like mine. Will you chip in $5 or whatever you can to help me fight back and defend our values in Congress? [[link removed]]

In moments like these, your support is more powerful than ever. Together, we can build an America where no family has to live in fear — and where our leaders respect the Constitution, not weaponize it.

Gratefully,
Yvette D. Clarke

Chair, Congressional Black Caucus
Proud daughter of Jamaican immigrants
