James Madison called the accumulation of power by a single person “the very definition of tyranny” -- and our founders designed the U.S. Constitution to guard against this threat.

But Donald Trump refuses to acknowledge this bedrock principle of our democracy.

-- First, the Trump administration undermined checks on its power by firing independent government watchdogs and attacking the independence of the judiciary.

-- Then, Donald Trump weaponized federal agencies to take revenge against his perceived political enemies and to attack organizations that wouldn’t bend to his will.

-- Now, Trump says he “doesn’t know” whether he needs to uphold the Constitution, even though it’s right there in the oath of office he’s taken twice.
