John,
I’ve never been afraid to stand up for what’s right, even when that means taking on some of the biggest special interests in Washington.
I took on Big Pharma by introducing bills to lower drug costs, eliminate medical debt, and work towards Medicare for All.
I took on Big Oil and subpoenaed CEOs to testify under oath for their role in accelerating climate change while lying to the public about their impact.
I took on Wall Street’s real estate grab by introducing legislation to keep private equity from buying single-family homes.
I took on the Defense Industrial Complex by rejecting every bloated defense budget from the past nine years, forcing military contractors to repay $16 million in taxpayer money, introducing the first War Powers Resolution on Yemen, and staunchly opposing a war with Iran.
I took on billionaires by calling for higher taxes on the rich, despite representing an area with more billionaires than anywhere else in the world.
I took on Amazon and forced them to increase their minimum wage to $15, then called on President Biden to fire the Senate Parliamentarian for not allowing legislation to increase the federal minimum wage.
And I took on my own party, running against incumbents three times, co-chairing Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, and calling for competitive primaries in Democratic districts.
Everything I do, I do for the people. When I was first elected, I co-founded the No PAC Caucus and introduced a bill to ban all PAC and lobbyist money from Congress because I firmly believe that our government should work for the people who elected us, NOT special interests.
