Dear FAMMily,
My name is Alexia Pitter, and in honor of Father’s Day, I’m proud to lead the launch of FAMM’s new storytelling campaign: Children of Parents in Prison.
My father has been incarcerated since I was three years old. Growing up without him physically present shaped every part of my life, but so did the love we’ve kept alive through letters, phone calls, and visits. He’s my best friend.
The impact of his incarceration on me and my family has been lifelong, and we’re not alone. Millions of us are navigating life with a parent behind bars, and too often, our stories go unheard. That’s why this campaign matters.
Children of Parents in Prison invites people impacted by parental incarceration to share their stories—through writing, video, audio, or creative expression. Together, we’re creating space for truth, healing, and change.
Join us for the official YouTube launch on Friday, June 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm EST, as we live-premiere our video Father’s Day: From Both Sides of the Fence. This story features two powerful voices: Eric Cabrera, a formerly incarcerated father who served 11.5 years in federal prison, and Erik Cabrera, the son of an incarcerated father serving a 24-year sentence.
If you’re a child of an incarcerated parent—or you love someone who is—we invite you to be part of this advocacy journey. Click here to register: https://act.famm.org/a/fathers-day-both-sides-fence
